Kinshasa is the largest and capital city of Democratic Republic of Congo.it is also most populous city in Africa with a total population of fifteen million. It is also one of the provinces in Democratic Republic of Congo. In 1881 it was established as trading post by Henry Morton Stanley. It is the thirds largest metropolitan area after Lagos and Cairo. Also, it is the largest Francophone urban area. It is also one of the rapid growing worlds megacities. Its main government language is French. In 2012 October, Kinshasa hosted the Francophonie 14th summit.It is located directly opposite the city of Brazzaville which is the capital city of Congo and downstream of the Pool Malebo to the southern part of the bank of Congo River. Due to post independence in Kinshasa urban planning has not been well developed thus slums emergence. Kinshasa is also a trading and fishing site due to its closeness to Congo River. Kinshasa is a city of sharp constraint with three universities alongside the slums, commercial areas and residential areas that are affluent in nature.Its residents are mostly the Kinshasa’s (English) or the kinois (in French) and the Teke and Humbu who are the indigenous people within the area. Most people within the city from the streets use the Lingala language in communication. The city has subdivisions and 24 communes where by the communes are grouped into four districts that include; Funa, Tshangu, Lukunga and Mont Amba district. The Kinshasa language used by many of the people in the city is also used to create relationships between different social classes Although people of the same class speak the local Congolese language among themselves. Each commune has its own Bourgmestre.Under climate Kinshasa experiences tropical dry and wet climate with long rain seasons spans from October to May and dry seasons that run from June to September which are relatively short when compared to the rain seasons which begins during the winter solstice since it lies to the south of equator. The dry season is slightly cooler when compared to the rainy season although the temperatures always remain constants throughout the year.The political national government of Kinshasa represents the ultimate sovereignty of people within the city despite the fragmentation of the city’s political power. Through this sovereignty the city is able to have relation with different international organizations that provide financing and support of political powers within the city.Kinshasa has a food processing industry which is a major industry and big manufacturing companies such the; Angel cosmetics, all pack industries and the Marsavco S.A located at the centrally in the town that play a great role in the city’s economy. The gross domestic product measures 85% of the Kinshasa accounts in the Congolese economy although 13 % of the population resides within the city. Most new jobs within the city are categorised as informal. The currency used in Kinshasa is the Congolese Franc whereby one Congolese Franc is equivalent to 0.00050 US dollars although US dollars are also acceptable together with some credit cards. It is also a city with high education institutions that mostly covers the fields of nursing from civil engineering, specialist and journalism. Her universities and art schools; University of Kinshasa, National Institute of Arts and centre of Health Training among many others. Primary schools and secondary schools are also available. Also, the city has medical health facilities, twenty hospitals and polyclinics. Kinshasa also has beautiful tourist attraction site that include; Kinshasa Fine Arts Academy, National Museum of Congo, Lola Ya Bonobo, Texaf Milembo, Ma Vallee, Pac de le Vallee de la Nsele and Marche Nouveau DAIPN.Most of the Kinshasa people are mainly Christians with available churches and temples as worship places which include; The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Kinshasa and Assemblies of God among many others. Islamic religion is also practised within the city. The popular sporting activities of the city are martial arts and football. Kinshasa is the home of the National Stadium known as the Stadium of the Martyr’s (Stade des Martyrs). The city is also twinned with different countries such as; Ankara, Brazzaville, Ubon Ratchathani and Johannesburg. Some of notable people in the city include; Emmanuel Weyi (Congolese entrepreneur), Fally Ipupa (singer song-writer), Ngalula Mubenga (engineer) among many others.
The city is known for some excellent restaurants and is the site of numerous nightclubs and motion-picture theaters. The local cuisine is unique. The Congolese male beer is made using rice and it has a nice taste, and its offered in different brands known as Doppel, Tembo, Skol, and Primus.
